Cape Town is set to partner with Florida city, Miami, to share policing strategies and work towards direct flights between the two cities.
A Miami delegation visited Cape Town in 2007 and signed a “declaration of intent” to work with the city. Now the city plans to officially kick-start that agreement with Miami-Dade County. The proposal was discussed in Tuesday’s mayoral committee meeting.
Some of the goals include:
l Sharing information on policing, fire and emergency services plans.
l Working together to open a direct flight route between Cape Town and Miami.
According to the “declaration of intent”, the two regions had similar populations and both had a strong tourism economy. The proposal is that they share information to bolster this sector.
The agreement will also pave the way to strengthen a relationship between the two ports of the cities. This will include increasing “cruise and cargo trade”. - Cape Argus
