In 1977 the du Toit family purchased Die Patrorie (The Parsonage) - one of the most recognised properties in Riebeek Kasteel, from the Dutch Reformed Church.
Thirty-three years later Pieter and Annalene du Toit have transformed this landmark property into one of the Riebeek Valley's most luxurious overnight accommodation options and named it the Kloovenburg Pastorie.
This historic property has now been affectionately restored and transformed into a beautiful home, offering guests to the Riebeek Valley three sumptuous air-conditioned en-suite bedrooms. Along with the luxurious accommodation, the Kloovenburg Pastorie also has relaxing public spaces, including a well-appointed lounge, dining room and a new wine and olive tasting area.
With the assistance of a friend Annalene raided the attics of their two farm houses and has managed to furnish almost 80 percent of the Kloovenburg Pastorie with their finds. Some furniture pieces were lovingly restored, while others were painted or remodelled. Decor of this classic Victorian-styled home is an eclectic mix of French and Victorian.
As with every aspect of the Kloovenburg Pastorie, attention to detail is extended right throughout. From the Egyptian cotton bed linen to the luxurious olive-based bath products from the Kloovenburg body product range, with its sleek black, white and silver packaging, perfectly complemented by the bathrooms.
Ideally located within walking distance of the quaint Riebeek Kasteel Town Square and its many restaurants, the Kloovenburg Pastorie is an easy stroll down into town for a delicious meal or some retail therapy. Those simply looking to relax and unwind can indulge in the comfort and privacy of their bedroom, which all have DSTV access.
For the more adventurous there are three walking trails between vineyards and indigenous plant life. One of the trails is to the top of Kasteel Mountain ending with a breathtaking view of Cape Town to the left and the Riebeek Valley to the right.
Before or after dinner the lounge and dining room is the ideal spot to relax in front of a cosy fire and to enjoy a glass of Pieter's superb Shiraz in the cooler winter months. In the summer months it's all about the outdoors. The front veranda, which over-looks Riebeek Kasteel, is the perfect place to sit and watch the exquisite Swartland sunsets, while enjoying a chilled glass of Kloovenburg White from Red, Brut and some mouth-watering olive treats.
Every Sunday the Kloovenburg Pastorie opens its doors to the public when it becomes the renowned wine and olive producer's tasting room from 10h30 onwards. Visitors will be able to taste and purchase Kloovenburg's award-winning wines and olive range.
