In the Mediterranean Sea off the south coast of Italy lies Malta. With plenty of history, fortified cities and a legacy of the country's long association with the Knights during the Crusades, there is much to experience.

Malta has temples that predate the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge by thousands of years, and has been invaded and occupied by many nations over the centuries. But apart from the cultural and historical aspects of this gorgeous Mediterranean country, there are many other reasons to visit.

Diving is one of them.

Malta offers excellent diving opportunities with many dive sites covering terrain such as wrecks, reefs, caves and bays.

The water temperature averages 26°C in summer and some of the sites to be dived include the Blue Grotto and the wreck of the HMS Maori. Divers can expect clear visibility and sighting of fish such as goatfish and scorpion fish, as well as young barracuda and sea horses.

Other reasons to visit Malta include a selection of outdoor activities such as mountain biking, horse riding, country walks, hikes and rock climbing. And of course the nightlife is fast becoming strong competition for Ibiza.
