Polish travel agencies are offering rock- bottom prices on vacations in Tunisia in a bid to lure back tourists after the protests in Tunis that lead to the overthrow of the country's president.
Prices are as low as 800 zloty (about R2 000) for a week-long package vacation, which includes accommodation at a four-star hotel, flight and all meals. That price is about half as much as is normal for this time of year, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reported.
Polish travel agencies will restart package holidays to Tunisia in March, following the December unrest which led to widespread cancellations.
The civil strife in Tunis caused Polish travel agencies about 100,000 to 150,000 zloty in loses, the daily reported.
About 150,000 Poles visit Tunisia every year, according to the Polish Chamber of Tourism. About 40 percent of all Poles chose either Tunisia or Egypt when vacationing abroad, as they guarantee good weather and better bargains than other destinations. - Sapa-dpa
