TripAdvisor.com has just released its 2011 list of dirtiest hotels, based on users’ ratings, and it’s enough to make your skin crawl.

Now in its sixth year, and true to its promise to share the whole truth about hotels to help travellers plan their trips, the world's largest travel site names and shames the US, Europe, Asia and India’s most hair-raising hotels.

* Club Aqua Gumbet in Gumbet, Turkey: According to one visitor the “pool was tainted by the sewer flooding into it whenever it rained.” Another reviewer on Tripadvisor.com compared the hotel to the Stone Age and added: “I knew we were in trouble when we entered into the lobby and was greeted by a black ,wet carpet (it was meant to be red).”

* Grand Resort Hotel & Convention Center in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee: “There was dirt at least half-inch thick in the bathtub which was filled with lots of dark hair,” a comment posted on TripAdvisor.com says.

* Goldkist Beach Resort in Singapore, Singapore: “There was a large clump of hair covering the shower drain,” a reviewer on the site said.

* Hotel Namaskar in New Delhi, India: “The windows were partially covered with pieces of old newspaper and lots of dirt,” one user said. While another called it “the worst place I have ever slept in!”

Other notable mentions goes to to Altin Orfe Hotel in Icmeler, Turkey - “The air conditioning unit leaked on the bed,” one comment reads - and Hotel Y Boulevard in Amsterdam, The Netherlands - “I'd rather stay in a phone box,” a reviewer said.
