With clear skies and sunny weather predicted, Kfm’s annual music festival looks set to be a hit again with a line-up of A-list local stars.

An 11 000-strong crowd is expected at the Val De Vie Wine Estate in Paarl on Saturday, where an exclusively local line-up, featuring Danny K, the Parlotones, Prime Circle, Loyiso Bala, Locnville, Good Luck, The Arrows, Elvis Blue, Flash Republic and house-sensation Mi Casa, is set to perform.

This will be Locnville’s second time on the K-Day stage and they are expecting great things.

“We love how smoothly everything runs and love the people behind the show,” said Andrew Chaplin, a member of the duo Locnville.

They will be playing hits from their back catalogue, but Chaplin promises a few new tracks that they have been working on.

A relaxed Danny K

said he still got nervous before every performance as he tries to do something new every time.

“It doesn’t get easier as the years go on. The longer you’ve been around, the harder it becomes to keep at it,” he explained.

Danny K promises a guest artist who will perform a special song.

“We’re also trying to put together a surprise with DJ Kent, which I can’t tell you about yet,” he said.

He said the audience could expect some new songs and a few golden oldies that helped catapult his career.

Danny K is due to get married here in Cape Town soon and gushed as he spoke about his fiancée, Lisa Gundelfinger.

In a telephonic interview from Joburg, Mi Casa’s lead vocalist, J’something said K-day audiences could look forward to “living it up” with the trio who will be performing there for the first time.

Although thousands are expected to attend, J’something said he was far from feeling intimidated.

“No, I’m not nervous. The more the merrier!”

And if ticket sales are anything to go by, K-Day will be merry indeed.

Denver Appolus, Kfm brand manager, said they are selling about 350 tickets a day.

“We’ve sold in the region of 8 500 tickets at the moment, so we should reach 11 000 tickets, especially with the weekend being pay-day for most,” Appolus said.

No alcohol can be brought into the premises, and food and drink will be on sale.

Gates to the venue along Jan van Riebeeck Road in Paarl, open at 11am and tickets are R160 for adults and R80 for children. Tickets are available at Computicket. - Cape Argus
