Those away on holiday appear to miss office gossip more than news of family or friends.

While just 23 percent of those on vacation feared missing out on family outings, as many as 74 percent worried about getting behind with the latest office happenings, the survey by travel agent www.sunshine.co.uk found.

And as many as 81 percent feared missing out on “important work” while away on holiday.

The survey was based on questions to 1,652 adults who had gone abroad in the last year and who were in full-time jobs.

Around a third (32 percent) admitted to doing some work on holiday while 24 percent had contacted the office to check up on things.

Also, 18 percent admitted to keeping in touch with work colleagues through social media and three percent had asked workmates not to arrange office nights out when they were away.

Sunshine.co.uk co-founder Chris Brown said: “Fear of missing out is a relatively common phenomenon.

“When you are thousands of miles away, it's easy to get anxious about what you could be missing, whether that's actual work, or just who said what behind whose back in the office.” - Belfast Telegraph
