Cape Town International Airport is the best airport in Africa, and George’s airport comes out tops among airports with fewer than two million passengers annually on the African continent, says the Airports Council International (ACI).
The ACI hands out its Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards each year, and has just announced its 2010 awards. Cape Town also picked up an award for having one of the world’s most improved airports.
ACI director-general Angela Gittens said: “Airports vie for passenger loyalty as they seek to attract new routes and air service. For them, ASQ is not just a popularity contest, it is a tool to help improve performance in a measurable manner, to understand the factors that are successful, and to identify problem areas that they can then address.
“Worldwide competition has heightened the importance of service quality at airports today.”
The ASQ passenger survey measures customer feedback on a range of airport experiences - from the moment of arrival to the departure gate.
Gittens said that last year, more than 300 000 passenger surveys were completed at participating ASQ airports. These helped the ACI choose its winners.
