Johannesburg - SA Airways (SAA) said on Wednesday it had been given two top awards by an independent information services report and a German trade magazine.
Spokesman Tlali Tlali said it was honoured as “the most on-time airline in the world” and “best business class product”.
It won the “most on-time airline in the world” in a report by FlightStats Inc, a global flight and airport information services provider, he said in a statement.
According to the report SAA beat Gulf Air, delivering 92.26 percent of its flights on time in March. Gulf Air managed 92.11 percent.
Other major international flights had delivered, on average, 78.76 percent of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule.
The award for Best Business product among Star Alliance carriers was given by FVW, a German travel trade magazine.
The magazine based its decision on a mystery shopper project.
SAA topped the list with 94 points out of 100, beating three other renowned European airlines, Tlali said.
“Every South African should take pride in the fact that their national carrier is Africa's most awarded airline and held in high esteem by travellers from across the world,” general manager of operations, Zuks Ramasia, said in the statement. - Sapa
