If your children need some help developing their self-esteem, then there is a book just for you.

Boikokobetso “Mr Fingerz” Makhetloane has published a children’s self-affirmation book that he said “is all about affirmations and boosting a child’s self-esteem. Imagine what can be accomplished if children receive this powerful tool.”

His book, titled “I Am Unstoppable”, carries statements such as “I am smart”, “I can achieve anything I put my heart and mind to” and many more courageous affirmations.

“The effective use of positive statements can go a long way in increasing a child’s self-esteem as well as providing a sense of belonging for the child,” he wrote in the introductory note to parents.

Titled “I Am Unstoppable”, the book encourages children to try again despite their failures, and boosts self-esteem which helps them to succeed in life, academically, at home and in their friendships. Picture: Supplied

Through its colourful, courageous characters, Mr Fingerz said the purpose of this book is not only to improve existing conditions, but also to foster character-building traits that have a direct impact on children’s self-esteem.

“My book was inspired by my observation and understanding of the fact that many children grow up without hearing words of affirmation or encouragement.

“This book showcases the qualities of curiosity, beauty, bravery and thankfulness that all children possess, even when they don’t realise it. Throughout the book, kids can relate to themselves through the different types of characters that are shown. As a result, self-esteem helps them succeed academically, at home and in their friendships.

“Besides helping children understand the world around them, it will also help them develop their social-emotional skills and imagination,” said Mr Fingerz.

Teacher Moropene Lethabo illustrated the book. He said they decided to use children to make it more relevant and to resonate with their language so they can identify themselves among the characters. He said it teaches the children to see beyond their circumstances and encourages them to want to achieve more.

The book is available and costs R100 per digital copy on Amazon and R150 for a hard copy.
