Two arrested in Newcastle for drug dealing

KWAZULU-NATAL police, working alongside private security personnel, arrested two men in Newcastle this morning (Tuesday) for allegedly dealing in drugs. The suspects aged 34 and 37, were apprehended following targeted operations by the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit.

According to a statement from the office of the KZN provincial commissioner, the police received intelligence that a suspect had collected drugs from Gauteng and was returning to Newcastle. Officers tracked the individual until he was intercepted in the Newcastle Central Business District. During the arrest, drugs were seized from the suspect, and a subsequent search of his residence uncovered crystal meth. The 37-year-old, who is currently out on bail for a previous drug-related offence, was charged with dealing in drugs.

Later the same day, authorities were alerted to another suspected dealer preparing to leave his home with a large quantity of drugs. Police intercepted him before he could depart and discovered crystal meth and an undisclosed amount of cash in his vehicle. He was also arrested and charged for dealing in drugs.

Both suspects are expected to appear at Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 3 February 2026, to face the charges.
