Music en Masse takes place at the DLI Hall in Greyville on Sunday at 2.30pm. Musicians from around the province will gather to try and create the largest orchestra seen on a Durban stage.

Ashton International College Ballito: (today) An afternoon of orchestral favourites as the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra performs alongside the Ashton College Choir and talented music students at this year’s Ashton Arts Festival. Well-loved works range from Beethoven and Jenkins to Dvořák and Rossini, under the baton of Chad Hendriks. Saturday July 26 at noon. The Barn at Westown Square: (tomorrow) Catch Sunday Sounds every Sunday from noon to 3pm featuring a line-up of Durban’s finest musicians.

DLI Hall, Greyville: (tomorrow) The British Cultural & Heritage Association presents Music en Masse - a fun concert which brings together anyone who can read and play music to create “the biggest orchestra ever seen in Durban”. St Thomas’s Church, Musgrave: The KZNPO will perform in a Sunday Sinfonia concert with conductor Chad Hendricks at the podium. Principal flautist Sabine Baird will perform the Mozart Flute Concerto. Watercrest Mall: (tomorrow) Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra in partnership with Ster-Kinekor presents the World Première of its concert film, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 – A Historic Cinematic Experience for South African Audiences. Rhumbelow Theatre Film Club: With cinemas closing or really expensive, and Netflix becoming stay-at-home-predictable, enjoy the notion of an old-fashioned movie night out with friends… with a drink in your hand (an adult beverage – at club prices) and affordable snacks and light meals (other than popcorn). The club opens its doors every Wednesday for a smorgasbord of films from vintage and classics to more modern and interesting films. KZNSA: The gallery hosts its annual Members’ Award Show. The theme of the exhibition is Imisinga (Currents) with  submissions thinking about how water holds memory, movement, and meaning. It is a source of life, ritual, conflict, and celebration. In Durban, water surrounds and sustains us culturally, historically, environmentally but it also reminds us of our vulnerabilities. For First Fridays at the gallery, get your artworks evaluated by Strauss & Co on Friday August 1 from 2pm to 5pm. 

Woza Moya Gallery, Hillcrest; The exhibition Behind Closed Doors opened last night. Features the work of artist Sinethemba Ndimande, and photographers Masibulele Nako and Manelisi Nene.

Animal Anti-Cruelty League: (tomorrow) The Durban and PMB Branch host a Christmas in July Dog Walk, where holiday cheer meets tail-wagging joy. Hilton Arts Festival: Booking is Open for the annual Hilton Arts Festival taking place at Hilton College, just outside Pietermaritzburg, from August 8-10. One of South Africa’s leading festivals, it brings the pick of the country’s music, theatre, film and art to KZN audiences. There are dollops of comedy, music of several different genres, an extensive fine art exhibition, arts workshops, fun activities for kids, upmarket craft, as well as loads of live music, free street theatre, and an extensive food and beverage offering.
