Respected crafters, Robin Opperman and Ujala Sewpersad, from Umcebo Design will hold a Michaelmas holiday, creative arts workshop at Glenwood Village Centre today teaching participants to make decorative skeletons out of plastic milk cartons.
Umcebo Design are known for teaching adults and children how to make art from recycled and found materials – encouraging people to be creative while repurposing materials otherwise destined for landfill.
Following the success of their paper rose making workshop in June, they are once more running a holiday workshop for people keen to get into the “spirit” of Halloween - a holiday observed on October 31 and noted for its pagan and religious roots and secular traditions.
In much of North America and Europe observance of Halloween is largely nonreligious, celebrated with parties, spooky costumes, jack o lanterns, pumpkin carvings, trick-or-treating, wearing scary costumes and the giving of candy are some of the time-honoured traditions of Halloween.
It is fun to learn to make your own decorations – be it ghosts from paper cups; spiders from pipe cleaners or bats from egg boxes. Umcebo will be suggesting some fun projects to create with friends, family and class-mates. Participants will be making skeletons from plastic milk cartons during the workshop.
Catch the workshop today from 9am until 1.30pm. Workshop is R100 and all materials will be provided. Booking is essential. Glenwood SuperSPAR will give participants a complimentary cup of coffee and a muffin. WhatsApp Opperman at 083 793 3408.
