Low-cost carrier FlySafair has announced that all flights are operating on schedule despite the commencement of an employer-initiated work stoppage affecting its cabin crew.

The carrier initiated the stoppage on Monday evening after failing to reach an agreement with the South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA) on wage increases and other employment terms.

The union has rejected an offer from the airline, which includes a 5.7% salary increase, a 7.5% annual bonus, experience-based pay progression, and additional monthly allowances.

"Unfortunately, no resolution was reached by the close of talks on Monday night, meaning that the employer-initiated work stoppage will commence from midnight tonight," the airline said on Monday.

SACCA has accused FlySafair of negotiating in bad faith. SACCA President Christopher Shabangu said the union is not on strike and emphasised that the lockout was initiated by the company.

In a statement on Wednesday, FlySafair said "operations remain stable following the commencement of the employer-initiated work stoppage on Monday".

"All flights operated as scheduled, with on-time departures throughout the day, and the schedule for this morning also remains fully protected with no delays reported".

"While the parties were unable to reach agreement yesterday, further engagement is scheduled for tomorrow. FlySafair remains committed to constructive and good-faith engagement with the South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA) and continues to seek a swift and fair resolution to the current impasse".

The airline added that it has also submitted a Section 150 application to the CCMA, requesting priority mediation in the public interest.

"In the interest of protecting the travelling public and supporting an expedited outcome, the company has submitted a Section 150 application to the CCMA, requesting priority mediation in the public interest.

"FlySafair appreciates the professionalism of all staff across the business and remains focused on maintaining safe, reliable operations while negotiations continue".
