A caretaker at Emithini Primary School in Bloekombos has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl last week.

The male caretaker was arrested on Monday after the Grade 4 learner wrote her mother a letter claiming the caretaker "touched her private part and forced her to kiss him".

The aunt of the victim said that the two incidents took place last week Thursday and Friday.

The aunt explained: "My niece wrote a letter to her mom after school last week Friday saying the caregiver pulled her into one of those little houses where the caretakers sit at the school by the gate and started touching her private parts and he forced her to kiss him.

"She is only 11 years old and I think this man is like 70 years old. I don’t think she is the only child he did it to, I think some of the children are scared to speak out. People need to know what this guy did and more children need to be protected because a lot of people are being quiet.

"My niece is terrified and scared. She went for counselling at Karl Bremer and they did some tests as well. We opened a case at Kraaifontein Police Station.

"The school suspended him on Friday and on Monday he was arrested. We hope he rots in jail for our child and other children’s safety.”

The aunt said they were not able to attend the court case on Tuesday as they were not able to get off work and also because they did not know which court the perpetrator appeared at.
