Arrows look to bounce back

Golden Arrows will have to make the minimum of one forced change as they attempt to bounce back from their unexpected 3-1 loss to Moroka Swallows in the Premiership at Chatsworth Stadium at the weekend.

"Abafana Bes'thende" make a quick return to action on Tuesday night and will look to complete a season double over Jomo Cosmos at Rand Stadium, having beaten "Ezenkosi" 2-0 at the start of the season at Chatsworth Stadium.

However, playmaker Nhlanhla Zothwane is out - suspended after he picked up his third yellow card against Swallows at Chatsworth on Saturday night, where Arrows scored first through striker Richard Henyekane - but the Birds hit back through Zambian hit-man Collins Mbesuma (2) and David Radebe.

"Yes, we could have defended the goals better against Swallows, but overall, some individuals did not perform well," said coach Manqoba Mngqithi on Monday.

"We are considering making changes.

"We don't need to say much to the players except to stress the need to win as many games as we can at this stage of the season, to move up the standings."

Arrows are 11th at the moment after just three wins, 10 draws and three losses.

Part of their problem seems to be that they are a one-striker team. Nobody has really established themselves as a solid partner for leading striker Henyekane.

That's why fans will often see Henyekane playing with a different man next to him.

Perhaps Arrows need to invest some of their MTN8 winnings in a striker.

In midfield, Musa Bilankulu scored both goals against Cosmos in the first round and so he will not lack confidence on Tuesday night.

Cosmos are in even worse trouble than Arrows, mainly because they did not beef up their squad after winning promotion from the First Division at the end of 2008 season.

Their 2-0 loss to Platinum Stars on Saturday was their ninth of 2009 and it kept them rooted to the bottom of the standings, with only nine points from 16 matches.

They have had only one victory all season and Arrows will want to keep it that way on Tuesday night.

Neighbours AmaZulu will be in action on Wednesday night when they face Platinum Stars at Chatsworth Stadium, while Maritzburg United will entertain Wits at Woodburn Stadium.
