A 19-year-old Bonteheuwel woman was shot in her back, allegedly by her own father after a heated argument.
According to the teen’s aunt, the incident happened on Friday night at their home, but the girl has refused to report her father to cops.
The father had allegedly come home drunk and started arguing with his two daughters, aged 16 and 19.
The girls ran out of the house and the angry father allegedly chased them down Rooihout Street, firing two shots. One of the bullets hit the girl in her back.
According to witnesses, the father left his injured daughter in the street and walked back home.
An ambulance rushed the girl first to the Vanguard Day Hospital and then to Groote Schuur.
Aunt Yolanda Wallenberg says the bullet had entered her back “very close to her spine”.
“I spoke to the children after the incident. He ran out after the girls and was drunk again, they say,” says Yolanda.
“She is critical in hospital, but does not want to talk to anyone about what happened and she won’t open a case.
“They lost their mother, my sister, just over a year ago to a heart attack.
“The girls want to stay there with their father. I think it’s because he is the only parent they have left. Their little brother is with their older sister now.”
She says the shot girl recently told her she was pregnant, but she’s not sure if this is still the case.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says: “The incident is under investigation with no new information so far.”
