Durban — Renegades Search & Rescue has called on adults to ensure the safety and well-being of children under their care.
Renegades Search & Rescue’s Dawn Gounden said leaving little children unsupervised can have serious consequences and pose risks to their safety and well-being.
“Young children are naturally curious and impulsive, which can lead them to engage in risky behaviours when left unsupervised.
“Without a responsible adult present to guide and protect them, children may be unable to make safe decisions. This can result in accidents, injuries, or even harm from strangers who may take advantage of their vulnerability,” said Gounden.
“Furthermore, unsupervised children may be more susceptible to emotional and psychological harm.
“Without a caregiver nearby to provide support and reassurance, children may experience feelings of fear, anxiety, and loneliness.
“These negative emotions can have long-term effects on their mental health and development.
“Additionally, unsupervised children are at a higher risk of encountering dangerous situations such as bullying, abuse, or exploitation.”
Adults are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children under their care, Gounden said.
On Tuesday, 6-year-old Ntswaki Tshokolo was reported missing. She was last seen playing with her friends at Extention 5, Bophelong, on Tuesday at 6pm. Luckily, Ntswaki was found safe.
Gounden pleaded with the community for assistance after the body of an unidentified African girl child, believed to be around 7 years old, was found in a Teal Place Ground in Lotus Park, Isipingo.
The public can possibly help to locate the girl’s family, Gounden said, and issued a collective appeal for information that may bring clarity and closure to this delicate situation.
Earlier this month, community members of uMkhomazi were left shocked after 2-year-old Isiphile Mnyangula disappeared after she was last seen playing with her friends wearing a pink tracksuit and no shoes.
In June, Zekhethelo Dlamini, 6, of Malukazi outside Isipingo, went missing. She was reportedly last seen at her home, wearing a white top and a pair of green leggings.
