Durban — A few netizens have shared their encounters with monkeys after a monkey activated a panic button belonging to a Pietermaritzburg resident on Boxing Day.
Private security company Mi7 National Group reported that a primate activated a client's panic button after stealing the remote.
Mi7 said that in a light-hearted moment this festive season, the security firm’s control room received multiple panic activation from the home of a Northdale client. Believing the client was in distress, several units were dispatched to the home without delay.
“Upon the first team's arrival, the client informed them that a monkey had entered the home and stolen a remote that contained the panic button,” Mi7 stated.
“It then bolted from the premises, pressing the panic button several times as it hurried away, remote in hand. The panic signals only stopped once the monkey was out of range of the receiver.
“In an unusual turn of events, the client opted not to have our teams chase down the culprit, and let him get away with the loot.”
Mi7 said they had a great laugh.
However, a new panic button was on the way for the client.

Zola Mzenzi said: “In 2020 they looted my lunch box inside the guard house while I was on patrol in New Germany in Pinetown.”
Ras Sanele Makhanya-Mngoma said monkeys once went into his office, looted his flu medication and drank them in a tree.
Delene Foskett Reed said: “One got into my bedroom and was busy taking my lunch box with my diabetic testing kit. He got a huge fright and dropped it and jumped out the window.”
Meanwhile, in an unexpected traffic alert, motorists were urged to be careful after four horses were galloping on John Dory Road between the grounds and Musa Madlala Drive in Newlands East.
