Another significant milestone in the KwaZulu-Natal hospitality sector has been achieved with the Sala Beach House being awarded 5-Star Premium Grading by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA).

The establishment received the accolade last week, and is now positioned among an elite group of only 23 accommodation properties nationwide, which serves to enhance its status as a premier destination for both local and international travellers.

Guests and stakeholders gathered to celebrate this milestone, including Graig Rutherford, the hotel owner, and prominent figures such as Jackie Motsepe, chief operations officer of the KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority, Rung Button, deputy chairperson of the authority’s board; and Minenhle Mhlongo, acting regional marketing manager of Africa and Domestic.

Their presence indicated the significance of the accolade, as their collaborative efforts to revitalise the province’s appeal as a luxury travel destination.

Motsepe said: “The 5-Star Premium Grading is an indicator of quality and excellence, and places Sala Beach House in esteemed company alongside iconic institutions like The Oyster Box.

"As such, KwaZulu-Natal is increasingly regarded as one of South Africa’s most exceptional luxury hotspots, marrying world-class hospitality with stunning coastal landscapes.”

She also emphasised that the recognition went beyond being an accolades; it illustrated the growing confidence in the province’s premium offerings.

“As esteemed global brands such as Club Med prepare to unveil their establishments in KwaZulu-Natal, the region is poised for an upswing in tourism.

"This influx shows promising potential, reinforcing KZN’s standing as a destination where cinematic beauty meets unparalleled hospitality.”

Rutherford said the recognition was a pivotal moment for the local tourism industry amidst a resurgence in hospitality residences, following recent global challenges.

He said: “My team and I are dedicated to upholding the highest standards, ensuring visitors experience the ultimate in luxury and service.”
