As anticipation builds for the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF), the festival’s citywide activations continue to create musical moments that will live long beyond the main stage. On 27 February, singer, composer and songwriter Thandeka Dladla will bring her captivating sound to the final Jazzy Sundowner Session at Van Ryn’s Distillery and Brandy Cellar. The evening was designed to celebrate local artists while having the beauty of the Cape Winelands in the background of world class performances.
Dladla has spent the past few years steadily building her reputation as one of the more compelling voices in South Africa’s jazz space. This Stellenbosch appearance arrives at a moment when her presence on national stages continues to grow, making the sunset set feel both timely and well deserved.
The Jazzy Sundowner Sessions have evolved into more than a warm-up to festival weekend. They offer a different pace. One where audiences can slow down, listen closely and experience artists in a setting that encourages connection rather than a bigger spectacle that can feel busy. The previous edition, headlined by Don Vino, sold out quickly, and expectations are similarly high for the closing event.
Van Ryn’s has become an increasingly popular performance space. The historic cellar provides a relaxed yet refined backdrop for live music. In partnership with CTIJF, the venue has hosted a series of evenings that foreshadows the past, present and future of music. The atmosphere in equal measure, strengthening its reputation as a destination for thoughtful live experiences.
As CTIJF prepares to welcome thousands to Cape Town at the end of March, evenings like this remind audiences that the festival’s impact extends far beyond its main stages. Dladla’s performance promises a fitting close to the series. An opportunity to gather at sunset, listen deeply and celebrate a voice that continues to rise.
