Sol Phenduka has earned a nomination for Best Traffic Presenter at the upcoming awards for his work on the Kaya 959 show, "Siz The World." This nomination is particularly notable as it comes after he departs from Kaya 959, recognizing his contribution in the specific role he held on the show.
Solomuzi Thandubuntu Phenduka is a South African radio host, podcaster, music DJ, and reality television star. He has worked at Kaya as a co-host of the breakfast Chill show with Dineo Ranaka, Port Kast, and with MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho, in a podcast on YouTube.
His history shows a clear commitment to freedom of speech, though it has previously led to suspension. In 2015, for example, while working at 5FM, he was suspended for making offensive comments regarding murders in Stellenbosch.
Despite his controversial dismissal from Kaya 959 following alleged offensive comments about Minnie Dlamini, Sol Phenduka has received a nomination for Best Traffic Presenter at the upcoming radio awards. More recently, this commitment culminated in a controversy during a show where he allegedly made offensive comments directed at a TV producer and actress, Minenhle “Minnie” Dlamini. The situation escalated from a suspension to his eventual dismissal earlier in August this year.
The station released a statement that confirmed the termination of Phenduka following a review of recent public conduct. Phenduka’s contract was then terminated immediately.
This was a result of the remarks he and his co-host, Mukwevho, allegedly made regarding Dlamini’s private parts in a show, and Dlamini took legal action to protect her dignity. Many people sided with Dlamini.
Dlamini then filed a case in the Equality Court, seeking R2.5 million in damages. This claim is based on allegations of hate speech, unfair discrimination, and harassment rooted in sex or gender.
Despite his apologies and the evidence supporting his claims that he had said nothing, which led people to take his side, management's decision regarding his dismissal remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, in a swift turn of events following his apology, the man has now received a nomination for Best Traffic Presenter in the very same awards show!
He recently announced on an X post, "Look who's nominated for best traffic presenter at the radio awards," and fans immediately turned to the comment section to celebrate with him
