South African comedian Anton Taylor has always been the king of chaos with meaning.
The man can drag you, heal you and make you snort-laugh all in one skit. But this time, he stepped away from punchlines and straight into romance, and we are here for it.
And his recent Instagram post is everything a Monday morning needed. Love is absolutely winning, people!
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Taylor announced his engagement to his girlfriend in a post that felt more like a love letter, a spiritual ceremony and a quiet confession.
And what stood out immediately? The precision. The care. The symbolism. This wasn’t a random knee-drop outside a coffee shop (no judgment). This was thought through with heritage, memory and purpose at the centre.
In his post, he writes: “I asked her to marry me beneath the jackalberry that my parents both loved, alongside a stretch of the Sand River where my mother’s ashes are scattered.
It was the 11th of the 11th. Nineteen years after our first kiss. Four years after we began again. Two days before the anniversary of her father’s passing.”
Cue the tissues. In numerology, 11:11 is known as a master number linked to alignment, spiritual awakening and soul connections. It speaks to timing, destiny and moments that are meant to happen exactly as they do.
So choosing that date is giving “this was written long before it happened” energy. Add the timeline of their love story and the sensitivity around her father’s passing, and suddenly this proposal feels like a moment of healing, memory and new beginnings all in one breath.
He continues: “Her parents were born in Iran, and so I wanted the ring to have a stone born in Iran. I sought an Iranian turquoise called Firoozeh… the stone came by kindness. The hardest part was hiding it from her, my best friend.”
Pause. Wait for the feels. A love symbol that arrived through the community. Even the way he describes struggling to hide it from “my best friend” tells you everything you need to know about their bond.
Then: “If I were to have imagined the perfect partner, I could not have invented her. Each day she amazes me with acts of kindness, intelligence and bravery…”
And my sass side whispers: Taylor - you big softie - the man who roasts our everyday with gags melting for his woman. I love that.
Finally, he sealed it with: “…love without pain or misery. I want to spend my life with you. … Let us grow this precious painless love which we have… I love you. I love you. I love you.”
Three times. Because once wouldn’t cut it. So yes, grab maar your tissues and have a moment for how special this is.
