South African musician Donald recently took to Facebook to praise young artists Naledi Aphiwe and Mawelele for their impact on the local music scene.

“So I wanna tell you about these two amazing young people. These two represent a dream far beyond their young minds; they can’t even fathom it because they’re still too young,” he wrote.

“Mawelele and Naledi represent exactly why I’m still in the music business, probably why I will always be in it too.”

Donald highlighted the timing of their rise, noting the challenges facing the R&B and Afropop genres in South Africa.

“Their rise came at exactly the perfect time when the R&B and Afropop genre in Mzansi was slowly fading and not being respected, and came and saved the day. Two extremely young people came and saved this industry, and most people aren’t even aware of it, but asikho lapho [we’re not there],” he said.

He continued to praise the artists’ professionalism and maturity in navigating the music industry.

“Well, I’m here to proclaim we are currently experiencing history with what they’re busy building, and I also wanna thank them for being wiser than their years in how they navigate the difficulties, trials and tribulations of this business.

"@Mawelele and Naledi Aphiwe, I want you to know that I’m super proud of you two, and if anyone has not told you yet, let me be the one to tell you - you’re doing well so far.

"I know it’s not always easy, but you’re doing it, and this thing is bigger than you, so treat it with extra care and don’t forget to continue having a good time while doing it. I love you @Mawelele @Naledi, and I’m always here when you need me.”

Donald also promoted the duo’s latest release, writing, “Also, #BuyaEKhaya is out on all streaming services.”

“Buya Ekhaya”, which translates to “Come Home”, is an R&B and Afropop single that explores the more challenging side of love and relationships.

The artists have described music as their form of therapy, using the song to express difficult emotions while conveying that love has both ups and downs.

This release follows a growing body of work by Aphiwe and Mawelele. Other collaborations include tracks such as “Naledi” and “Romeo & Juliet”.

Their music consistently blends R&B melodies with afro-pop rhythms, helping to revive interest in the genres and gain recognition among South African audiences.

Earlier this year, Donald celebrated the duo’s role as game-changers in the South African music industry.

“Guys, Naledi & Mawelele are changing our music scene right in front of our eyes, and I feel like we haven’t woken up to it yet. Yoh, I’m so happy for the future of SA music,” he shared.
