Bretman Rock woke up and decided that peace was overrated and Vanessa Hudgens was about to catch a very public stray.
While chatting on the "Sweet or Savory" podcast (which only started doing the rounds on social media weeks later), Rock spilled on their wildest celebrity encounters, and one name stood out for all the wrong reasons.
According to Rock (who is nonbinary and uses all pronouns FYI) their best celebrity run-in remains Adriana Lima, whom they met at a New York Fashion Week afterparty back in 2017. Chill, kind, and exactly the vibe you want.
But when asked about their most disappointing celeb interaction? Bretman didn’t even pause. “I don’t like her,” they said flatly, before unpacking an awkward encounter with Hudgens during a sponsored trip to Coachella.
This was peak influencer era, flower crowns, brand houses, and everyone pretending that they are the s**t.
According to Rock, who had already rose to fame at the time, the awkward moment happened during a sponsored "SugarBear Hair" trip to Coachella around 2017 or 2018.
Rock was at the SugarBear house to collect festival passes when they spotted the brand’s CEO, someone they already knew personally.
So when Rock saw him across the room, they did what any normal person would do: wave. “I’m like, ‘Chris!’” they recalled, adding that they were very clearly trying to get his attention not Hudgen’s.
That’s when things got strange.
“She literally looks at me and tries to hide,” Rock said, explaining that Hudgens appeared to assume the wave was meant for her. “First of all, I’m not saying hi to you. I’m not a fan.”
And just when you think it couldn’t get more uncomfortable, it allegedly did. They claimed Hudgens then grabbed another woman and physically pulled the woman in front of her.
“She grabs her hand and makes her stand in front of her to kind of, like, block,” Rock said, adding that they were still walking towards the CEO at the time. Mind you, this was pre-Covid. No social distancing guidelines. Just pure avoidance.
“I was walking toward them to say hi to the CEO,” Bretman reiterated, making it very clear that Hudgens was never the intended destination. Which makes the whole shielding situation shady.
Rock also side-eyed Hudgens’s casting as a Latina character in "High School Musical", despite her being Filipino. “I was always Team Sharpay,” they hilariously added referring to Ashley Tisdale's character.
And while Hudgens still enjoys her long-standing title as “Coachella queen”, Rock remains entirely unbothered.
“I still don’t give a f***,” they said bluntly. “I was not f***ing saying hi to you, Vanessa. There’s no reason for you to be hiding … The only ones here are the ones invited.”
Sharpay away!
