“Coming in as a footballer, there have been many ups and downs, especially when you want to be part of a club,” said Ashay Sewlall, on entering the “Big Brother Mzansi” season 6 house.

At 24, the Richards Bay native is a personal trainer, content creator and former professional football player. He hopes his life experiences will give him an edge in the game.

“Also, having run my first Comrades Marathon, I realised that it is easy when you are looking in from the outside, hence it was the love and support from outside that helped me finish that race. My love language is my love - I don’t think I will be displaying it in the house.”

Sewlall’s football career has been central to his life. He played professionally with Richards Bay FC in the PSL from 2020 to 2024.

“Fitness, or should I say football, has always been my passion,” he shared, reflecting on years dedicated to the sport in an interview with “Independent Media Lifestyle” last year.

In 2025, he tackled the Comrades Marathon, turning it into both a physical and mental milestone. The challenge reignited his love for football and allowed him to give back to his community. He ran to raise funds for Sinosizo Siyaphambili, a charity supporting disadvantaged youth in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Running the Comrades was a test physically, but more mentally for me to get back into my love for football,” he admitted. “If I can do this, I know I can start football again from the bottom.”

Sewlall has also embraced social media. He joined TikTok in 2024 and has grown a community of supporters who enjoy following his journey. His fluency in isiZulu helps him connect with a broader audience, while his content reflects his interest in fitness, dancing and personal growth.

He described life as a series of risks. “Life is about taking risks,” he said, looking back on his path from school to professional athlete.

That mindset now extends to his ambitions in the arts and entertainment.

“I want to keep sharing my talent and exploring my passions, such as dancing to different music, fitness, speaking different languages, and even acting.”

For anyone hoping to make their mark in creative industries, Sewlall offered advice drawn from his own experiences.

“Be yourself, be unique and do it your way,” he urged.
