Though 2026 is only a couple of weeks old, the celebrity world has been buzzing with activity. From musical career changes to prominent family disagreements, here are some of the biggest showbiz highlights of the week.

1. DJ Maphorisa shifts from amapiano to Afrohouse

The music world was shocked this week when DJ Maphorisa (real name Themba Sekowe) announced that he is shifting his focus back to Afro house.

The renowned South African DJ and producer recently shared an unreleased Afro house song on his social media and wrote: “Amapiano is in good hands, I am going back to my roots where it all started; AFRO!” 

The post sparked strong reactions as fellow artists showed support in the comments.

2. Influencer Kristy Scott files for divorce from husband Desmond Scott

The famous influencer couple has announced that they are getting a divorce, after meeting at age 14, getting married in 2014 and sharing two sons.

Allegations of infidelity surfaced shortly after news of the separation broke, prompting Desmond to address the situation directly on his Instagram Stories.

“I want to begin by apologising to Kristy, our family, and everyone who has been impacted by the public attention surrounding this situation,” he wrote. “I know this news has been disappointing for many, and I'm truly sorry for the hurt it has caused.”

3. SA celebs celebrate their children’s matric results success

Nonku Williams was among the proud parents who this week commemorated her child, Nothile Williams, passing matric. 

"The Real Housewives of Durban" star wrote on social media: “Beyond proud of my daughter @williamsnothile for passing her matric with two distinctions and a Bachelor’s pass! All glory to God, with Him, all things are possible. His guidance made this journey beautiful."

Meanwhile, actress Kgomotso Christopher also celebrated her daughter Laronalehakwe's matric achievement with six distinctions.

4. Leonardo DiCaprio's viral Golden Globes moment

The award-winning actor may not have taken home the Best Actor Award at the 2026 Golden Globes, but he has become an internet sensation.

During a commercial break, a clip shows a highly energetic DiCaprio in conversation with someone off-camera.

While the identity of the person he was chatting to is still unknown, our favourite leading man was playfully recounting someone's reaction to either a K-pop group or the film KPop Demon Hunters, which was a huge topic of conversation that night.

5. Nandi Madida celebrates her daughter’s role in the launch of the first autistic Barbie

Barbie has partnered with South African media personality Nandi Madida, alongside her six-year-old daughter, Nefertiti Madida, for its first-ever autistic Barbie doll.

Nandi has previously spoken openly about her journey in raising a neurodivergent child. Taking to Instagram, the actress shared how proud she was to see Nefertiti being part of the historic launch.

6. Celebrities support Christall Kay following allegations of bullying

Liz Prinsloo, a castmate from “The Real Housewives of Gqeberha”, DJ and artist Lady Du and South African activist Zulaika Patel are some of the celebs who have spoken out on social media following allegations of bullying on “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa (UGT)”.

After Showmax released the trailer for the latest episode, both celebrities and netizens expressed their outrage over Christall's treatment by her castmates.

Kay was the last member of the cast to arrive in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the show was filmed.

However, after three episodes, the reality TV star decided to leave the vacation villa to protect her mental peace.

This decision followed heated disagreements with castmates, including Mariam Timmer from “The Real Housewives of Lagos”, “Princess Jecoco from The Real Housewives of Abuja”, and Annie Mthembu and Angel Ndlela from “The Real Housewives of Durban”.

7. The Beckham family feud intensifies

Beckhams' family feud is getting so intense that even lawyers are now involved.

According to multiple online reports, Brooklyn Beckham instructed his parents to only contact him through lawyers. 

Furthermore, he reportedly also shared that he does not want Victoria or David to make statements about him on social media or even contact him. This comes after it was revealed that the 24-year-old chef unfollowed his parents and siblings on social media.

Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Peltz-Beckham, has also removed everything related to the Beckhams on Instagram.

8. Amapiano star Vigro Deep marries Lilitha Nxadi in a vibrant traditional ceremony

The musician (real name Kamogelo Phetla) tied the knot in a traditional ceremony over the weekend, exchanging vows with his long-time partner, Lilitha Nxadi. 

Among the guests were notable figures in the industry, including producer Mr JazziQ and vocalist Babalwa M.

The bride looked stunning in an orange wedding dress with bold patterns all over it, and the groom wore a beige traditional shirt with long sleeves and matching beige pants.

South African gospel artist Nontokozo Mkhize has started 2026 on a high note, winning her first award outside of South Africa.

The musician won the Best Female Artist in Southern Africa Award at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA). The awards were held in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday night. The ceremony celebrated talent from across Africa.

Taking to Instagram, Mkhize celebrated her win with her followers, thanking them for their support.
