Tyla, fresh off a successful run at Paris Fashion Week, recently returned home to South Africa. She pulled a touching surprise she planned during her downtime that has warmed hearts online.

A TikTok video, shared by Iman James, mother of young fan Imari Kenya James, has now garnered over 231,900 views, documenting the emotional moment the nine-year-old received the surprise of a lifetime from the global superstar.

Imari was posing for what she thought would be a picture with her mother and brother while someone filmed them to get their reaction. Mid-pose, there was a knock at the door. Moments later, Tyla walked in with her parents right behind her.

Imari’s reaction said it all. She appeared to be shocked and thrilled as the 24-year-old superstar embraced her, creating a moment that has since warmed hearts online.

Imari later gave her followers an update about how that visit made her feel.

She shared an unboxing video on her TikTok showing a picture of Tyla that she autographed at the back. “Love you Imari,” it read, with Tyla’s famous signature.

The goodies didn’t stop there. Imari also received a Tyla Pandora necklace with a tiger engraved on its pendant.

“Tyla, I just want to say a big thank you. Yoh! This really touched my heart. Thank you so much, I really appreciate this. Thank you for taking your time to acknowledge me. She also thanked Tyla’s parents for their time and for making the moment possible.

Imari’s story goes far beyond being a fan meeting her favourite artist.

The nine-year-old Durban-born has faced a journey that many adults would struggle to navigate. Diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, a condition that causes a build-up of fluid in the brain, Imari spent much of her early life in and out of hospital.

In an interview with “Good Things Guy”, her mother, Iman, previously shared what those early days looked like.

“Becoming a mother is usually filled with joyful ‘firsts’, but my experience as a first-time mom was very different. I remember changing my tiny newborn while she still had drips attached and was recovering from surgery,” she said.

Imari reportedly underwent multiple surgeries within her first year, facing complications that at times affected her vision and mobility.

“As time went on, she would reach milestones, only for us to face another surgery and feel like we were starting from the beginning again.

“At different points, the pressure in her head caused her to temporarily lose her vision, temporary paralysis, and even developed Bell’s palsy. Watching your child go through that is incredibly painful, but she fought through every challenge with unbelievable strength,” she shared with “Good Things Guy”.

Through it all, Imari has remained positive, building a growing online community where she shares messages of hope.

“Her positivity has touched thousands of people online. Through our TikTok community of over 200,000 followers, families from around the world have connected with Imari’s story and drawn strength from her journey.”

Imari has even turned her experience into something creative, releasing a colouring book inspired by her journey to help other children feel seen and supported.

“Creating the colouring book was something very special for us. It was born from the idea that every child should feel proud of who they are, even if their journey looks different,” Iman added.
