Social media has been in overdrive this week following the arrest of Ekurhuleni city manager Kagiso Lerutla and the recent SIU (Special Investigating Unit) findings.

Timelines are filled with theories, screenshots and a lot of finger-pointing. However, beyond the speculation, it’s what some celebrities are saying that’s getting people talking.

Rapper and producer Anatii is one of the names that has entered the conversation. He took to X and shared his thoughts on all the jaw-dropping revelations that have been surfacing since the arrests.

“The country will heal once the baddies turn state witness,” he wrote.

The comment comes as rumours continue to circulate that some government officials accused of corruption have been spending large sums of money on influencers and so-called “baddies”, allegedly funding the kind of lifestyles often seen on social media.

While none of these claims has been officially proven in relation to influencers or celebrities, that hasn’t stopped the conversation from growing.

Music executive Nota Baloyi also weighed in, backing Anatii’s sentiment and going a step further by calling the women “co-conspirators”.

His comments tie back to previous statements he’s made about how taxpayer money is often reflected in the flashy lifestyles seen online.

“Everything we see on Instagram was bought with our taxes, it appears … If the perpetrators of State Capture were lavishing these slay queens and celebrities with the loot from their tenders then we’ve paid for all those Maison Goyard bags,” he previously wrote.

The conversation has only intensified as old pictures and alleged links between DJ and influencer Cyan Boujee and Lerutla started resurfacing online, with people trying to connect the dots.

According to reports, there have been claims that she received financial support tied to corruption, including allegations about a luxury property purchase

Boujee has since deactivated her social media accounts, citing personal reasons and the need for a break. She had also previously shared that the money in all her bank accounts had been frozen.

Her brief absence from social media intensified the rumours, leading some to speculate that she was trying to distance herself from the scandal.

Despite the speculation, no official statement has confirmed any link between Boujee and a criminal investigation or illegal activity.

At this stage, Lerutla is facing serious charges including fraud, corruption and money laundering, following his arrest at OR Tambo International Airport.
