It seems Tyla just isn’t getting her moment with Rihanna.
The South African star shared a video on social media talking about the “awkward” and very brief interaction she had with Riri at last year’s Met Gala.
Tyla, who has openly shared her admiration for the “Umbrella” singer, said that when she met her, Rihanna appeared to be occupied.
Looking a bit “crazy” because she had just woken up, the “Water” singer said, “Everyone knows I love Ri.”
“So I met her last year, and she was cool. But I think she was occupied.”

She went on to say that she greeted the Fenty Beauty owner, and even though Rihanna said “hey” back, she quickly added, “My baby daddy is calling me.”
“Maybe she was busy. I felt awkward. What the heck. I felt awkward because I don’t know how to say ‘hi’ if I feel like someone is busy,” she continued.
She then went on to explain what happened at this year’s Met Gala, which took place on Monday.
This comes after a video surfaced of what appeared to show Rihanna ignoring Tyla, who could be seen standing in the background.
“I was waiting for my car, and she was right there,” she said before inserting a picture of herself awkwardly standing in the background.
“I didn’t want to go up because I felt like she was busy. You know what I mean. The last time she was busy,” she explained.
Tyla concluded by saying that if and when she does end up speaking to her idol, she wants it to be calm so they can “vibe” and talk nicely.
The clip was shared on X by @BlackMedia, which previously posted the video of Rihanna seemingly ignoring Tyla.
The response to Tyla’s encounter with Riri was divided, with some saying people were blowing things out of proportion and others claiming Tyla was simply chasing clout.
“Y’all are so weird bc the discourse for the last 24 hours has been Rihanna hates Tyla and ignored her and Tyla has come online to clear it up. There’s no beef. Yet you’re asking why would she post this??? Y’all got rocks for brains,” wrote @redactedhyung.
@Abelpter simply responded: “She’s such a clout chaser.”
