Australian singer and songwriter Ziggy Alberts is back with a new summer single, “Cyclones”.
Following the release of his album “New Love" in February, which has already surpassed 30 million streams in six months, Alberts has spent much of the year on a 105-date world tour, performing sold-out shows across Europe, North America and a packed Royal Albert Hall in London.
Now, as the year winds down, he closes it on a high note with this reflective yet upbeat track.
Announcing the song on Instagram, Alberts wrote: “And so it begins. Seasons of change. I’ve been playing this song all tour, and this day comes with a lot of emotion. In the summer, since New Love, I secretly went back into the studio in true chaos mode."
"I never dared to venture to some of the places @garrettkato and I went creatively. We tore apart and rebuilt stories, and this song is an offering of some of that process. It also represents some personal fork in the road, one which I yet fully understand the outcome of.”
“Cyclones” captures Alberts’ familiar mix of introspection and melody. It blends folk with a modern, sunlit sound that feels both nostalgic and new. The track carries his signature storytelling - personal, open and grounded - with lyrics that reflect on change, impermanence and emotional turbulence.
“This song first landed on my lap in Fiji on a surf trip in 2024,” Alberts said.
“I raced back from coffee and managed to catch it then and there. It’s so easy to blame the weather for our own stormy lives. I know I do it all the time. It’s looking back and seeing old habits still being true."
"And thinking that, it doesn’t matter if things weren’t going to last forever, it’s just asking myself - did I really do enough? Or did I just walk away like I always do? It’s about being attracted to chaos, like a moth to a flame; you know it’s a mess in the making, but you can’t help it sometimes.”
For Alberts, the song feels like both a continuation and an evolution. It ties to the themes of “New Love” - renewal, connection and self-discovery - while also revealing a deeper honesty about his own creative and personal cycles.
Alberts will bring “Cyclones" to life on stage during his "Homecoming Tour", running next month from Friday, November 21, to Sunday, November 23.
The tour will see him perform in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, including his first-ever arena show at Margaret Court Arena.
Joining him on all dates is South African singer-songwriter Jeremy Loops.
“I’m beyond stoked to return to Australia after all this time,” Loops said.
“To be joining Ziggy for these homecoming shows means a lot. When we met in South Africa, it was like meeting a kindred spirit - same passion for acoustic music, the ocean, and simple truth. I can’t wait to share those moments with new ears down under.”
∎ "Cyclones" is now available across all streaming platforms.
