Naledi Aphiwe is closing out 2025 on a high, celebrating a year that turned her into one of South Africa’s most-streamed voices.
The KwaZulu-Natal-born singer first gained attention when her unique Afro-pop sound caught industry eyes, including international star Chris Brown, who sampled her vocals on his 2023 album "11:11".
Since then, she’s built a loyal fanbase with a series of singles and collaborations that showcase her soulful, heartfelt style.
Now, Aphiwe is celebrating the results of a remarkable year. She took to social media to thank fans for their support, sharing her Spotify Wrapped statistics with pride. The numbers speak for themselves: 4.7 million listeners, 47.6 million streams, and fans in 184 countries.
“Aybo!!! Thank you to every single person who streamed my music, shared my songs, added me to your playlists, and carried my voice into your homes, cars, and hearts this year,” she wrote.
“Seeing these numbers … it reminds me that my gift is bigger than me. It lives because you believe in me.”
Beyond streaming success, Aphiwe has also marked personal milestones, including renovating her mother’s home, a project that brought her immense joy.
Musically, she celebrated the success of "Romeo & Juliet," her collaboration with Mawelele, which reached 11.5 million streams, something she described as “unreal.”
"Romeo & Juliet" is a whole mood. Mixing Afro-pop vibes with soulful harmonies, the track is like love in musical form: tender, hopeful, and just a little bit cheeky.
The song didn’t just vibe with fans; it won big, taking home Best African Pop Song at the 2025 Metro FM Awards and Best R&B Song under SABC1. People couldn’t get enough: in just ten days, the video hit 1 million YouTube views.
“Every performance, every studio session, every tear, every prayer … it all makes sense when I see how much love you’ve shown me,” she added.
“Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for seeing me. Thank you for letting my music be part of your stories. This is not the end, it’s just the beginning. I love you all, and I promise to give you even more in 2026.”
South African music veteran Donald praised Aphiwe and Mawelele for their impact on the local scene, calling their rise “history in the making”.
He wrote, “These two represent a dream far beyond their young minds… Two extremely young people came and saved this industry.”
He also highlighted their professionalism, adding, “@Mawelele and Naledi Aphiwe, I want you to know that I’m super proud of you two… this thing is bigger than you, so treat it with extra care and don’t forget to continue having a good time while doing it.”
As 2025 comes to a close, Aphiwe’s journey from high school viral sensation to celebrated artist serves as a reminder of the power of music and the fans who make it thrive.
