DJ Speedsta’s latest project focuses on opening up access in the DJ industry, offering both structured training and practical exposure.

There’s been a steady shift in how young people view DJing, with the role moving far beyond nightlife sets and party playlists.
It has become a recognised career path, shaped by radio, streaming culture and the rise of local music scenes that reward visibility as much as skill.
Additionally, DJ Speedsta, born Lesego Nkaiseng, has entered the conversation with a new initiative aimed at opening doors for emerging talent.
DJ Speedsta marked his birthday by launching a training programme through the DJ Speedsta Foundation. The project, titled "DJ 101 by DJ Speedsta", will run over eight weeks and offer four aspiring DJs fully funded training, along with practical exposure to the industry.
The timing of the announcement ties into his birthday on May 4, when winners will be revealed via his "Up To Speed" podcast and social media platforms.
Entry requirements have been kept simple, with applicants asked to submit a 30-second video introducing themselves, their background, and their reasons for wanting to pursue DJing. Submissions close on April 27.
Those not selected will still gain access to a wider workshop scheduled for May 9, which will include guest speakers and industry professionals offering insight into the business and craft of DJing.
DJ Speedsta’s own career reflects the very ecosystem the programme is tapping into. Emerging from the Vaal Triangle, he built his name through South African hip hop culture, eventually expanding into radio, television, production and live DJing.
His work in broadcasting, particularly within youth-focused music spaces, helped cement his position as a voice within local music culture rather than just a performer on the decks.
