Fans of the original 2004 film "The Passion of the Christ" have something to look forward to.
Award-winning actor and director Mel Gibson's sequel, "The Resurrection of the Christ," is set to be released in two parts, with both films hitting the silver screen in 2027.
Each release will fall on significant dates in the Christian calendar.
The first instalment, "The Resurrection of the Christ Part One," is scheduled to release on Good Friday, March 26, 2027. Following that, viewers can anticipate "Part Two", which will debut 40 days later on Ascension Day, May 6, 2027.
"The Passion of the Christ" originally grossed more than $610 million (over R10bn) globally off a $30 million (R535m) production budget.
It also earned nominations at the Oscars for best make-up, cinematography and original score.
Starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus of Nazareth and Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene, the original movie took viewers through the final twelve hours leading up to Jesus's crucifixion.
As for the sequel, Gibson described it as an "acid trip", hinting on the Joe Rogan podcast, that it will be an ambitious narrative filled with cosmic elements.
He revealed that he and screenwriter Randall Wallace are crafting a story that will explore themes like the fall of angels and even venture into hell.
The two films will be produced by Gibson and his partner Bruce Davey at Icon Productions.
