Cape Town's must-see theatre productions this week

To celebrate his 80th birthday this month, Pieter-Dirk Uys will be honoured at the Artscape Theatre with performances of two of his cherished plays: ‘African Times’ and ‘No Space on Long Street’.

African Times

This play pays a special tribute to the legendary performer, author and social activist, Pieter-Dirk Uys as he marks his 80th birthday this month on September 28.

This production delves into the life of Dr M. Z. Nkosi, a senior cabinet minister, who returns from a sanctions-defying trip to Beijing with his youngest daughter, Karabo, who had been living in exile in China.

It explores the Nkosi family's journey as they are forced to abandon their preconceived notions and illusions, facing the painful truth of their present circumstances.

When: From Wednesday, September 17, until Saturday, September 20, at 7pm.

The Cardinal

This performance allows the audience to be a part of the dark yet interesting play as it showcases the world of power, desire and secrets through captivating storytelling.

This play invites the audience to enter a realm of red shadows, whispered pacts and intoxicating rituals.

When: Runs until Saturday, September 20, at 8pm.

Moffie

Based on the novel by André Carl van der Merwe, this play explores a compelling themes of love, masculinity, survival and identity under apartheid.

This play centers around the life of Nicholas van der Swart (played by award winning David Viviers), a young queer person who is trying to navigate life and is also a part of the South African Defence Force during the apartheid era.

Where: The Baxter Theatre.
