This October, Noordhoek will be in full bloom as its much-loved Open Gardens event returns for its 11th year, inviting locals and visitors to explore some of the valley’s most beautiful private gardens.

Taking place over the weekend of 18 and 19 October 2025, this community favourite celebrates not just nature’s beauty but also the collective effort to keep Noordhoek thriving and green.

This year’s showcase will feature 11 inspiring gardens, each offering its own creative flair, from lush indigenous landscapes to carefully curated floral displays.

Beyond the petals and pathways lies a purpose rooted in community care as proceeds from the event go towards “On the Verge”, a non-profit initiative founded by organiser Kathy Fish.

For the past 16 years, On the Verge has been dedicated to transforming Noordhoek’s roadside verges into vibrant, well-maintained green spaces that reflect the valley’s natural beauty.

What began as a small idea after Fish noticed the tidy verges along the Robertson to Ashton road has blossomed into a full-scale community project.

Today, the team has created 34 roadside gardens, planted hundreds of trees, and regularly clears invasive vegetation to keep Noordhoek looking its best.

Every Wednesday, residents can see the group’s “We are on the verge today” sign to remind them of the hands that nurture the valley’s verges every week.

Adding to the sense of community, local Scouts and Girl Guides will once again assist at the event, helping with ticket sales and welcoming visitors at each garden.

The Noordhoek Open Gardens weekend has become a cherished local tradition, giving visitors the rare chance to step behind the gates of private gardens while contributing to a cause that benefits everyone.

All ticket proceeds directly support On the Verge.
