Getting Tested

This play shares the true stories of five female dancers who meet for rehearsal, unearthing their personal struggles and triumphs. 

Through a blend of music, dance and acting, the production educates and raises awareness about important social issues.

Mandisa is a very bubbly character with hidden skeletons. Smah reveals that she was once married, and when the husband left, she was forced to marry his brother.

Gugu is a very humble character who has been diagnosed with HIV and even tried to commit suicide. Nto, a lesbian who has experienced hate crimes and is not accepted by her peers, and Matilda grew up being body shamed.

Throughout the production, audiences witness the resilience and strength of women, drawing connections between the achievements of women from the 1956 protests against apartheid and the struggles faced by women today, as seen in 2020. 

Where: The Playhouse Loft Theatre. 

When: Thursday to Saturday, times vary depending on the day.

The story is framed through the lens of the most unconventional arranged marriage of all time, paired with a fresh and entertaining take on how the GNU was formed.

The cast includes Yugan Naidoo as Gayton, Vivian Moodley as Juju, Patrick Samuels as Zille and Ravi Subramoney as Zondo.
