Upcoming

The KZNSA Gallery will host the internationally acclaimed Dr Thokozani Mhlambi in his unique concert, "Thokozani Mhlambi: Playing John Knox Bokwe".

Mhlambi, a celebrated cellist and vocalist, will mesmerise audiences by blending traditional African rhythms with futuristic soundscapes, playing a custom-made baroque cello while singing in isiZulu.

As Mhlambi draws inspiration from the pioneering composer John Knox Bokwe,

“Back in the 1870s, when there were not many pianos in South Africa, John Knox Bokwe, while at Lovedale Missionary Institute, started to compose music fusing the Western hymn-style with Xhosa lyrics. I consider John Knox Bokwe the Father of African composition.

"He is my role model as I imagine the music of the future," commented Mhlambi.

He will be joined by award-winning storyteller Dr Gcina Mhlophe.

Where: KZNSA Gallery.

When: Friday, November 28, 6pm.
