031 Theatre Festival
Get ready for an explosive celebration of theatre performances as the 031 Theatre Festival returns for its spectacular 4th edition.
The family-friendly cultural highlight promises an eclectic mix of top-tier comedy, raw drama, nostalgic music and riveting solo acts.
Spearheaded by the Mzansi comedy duo Lisa Bobbert and Aaron McIlroy of Macbob Productions, this year’s 11-production lineup expands its horizons to include sensational out-of-town acts alongside beloved local stars.
Theatre highlights include:
- "Rugby Mad": Catch festival co-creator Aaron McIlroy in a high-energy, laugh-out-loud solo comedic performance that puts South Africa's favourite sport centre stage.
- "Cottonwool Kid": A compelling and beautifully woven narrative by performer Toni Morkel and director Sylvaine Strike, exploring a young girl's life burdened by her parents' carelessness.
- "Ms. B-haved": Written and performed by Sue Diepeveen, this sharp comedy follows a veteran teacher whose shocking suspension rocks a tight-knit school community to its core.
- "Roti Queen": Shika Budhoo shines in this solo comedy that hilariously uncovers the delicate dance between love, identity and the art of making the perfect roti.
- "Growing Old Disgracefully": International cabaret star Tonya Koenderman delivers a wonderfully irreverent, hilarious look at the unfiltered truths of getting older.
