After 25 years of marriage, Basetsana Kumalo took a moment to stop, look back and honour the man she has been sharing her life with.
The media personality and former Miss South Africa celebrated her anniversary with a message that was soft, sincere and full of gratitude for her husband, Romeo Kumalo.
Taking to Instagram, she reflected on their journey from the early days when they were just two young people dreaming big.
Her message was accompanied by a video that beautifully traced their love story. It featured pictures of the two of them from their early days, long before the fame and the cameras, right up to their wedding day.
The montage revealed a sweet reminder of how far they have come.
“Today marks twenty-five years of walking side by side as husband and wife, and my heart is full when I think of all that we have built together.
“When I look back, I see a young couple with big dreams, trusting that love, faith and commitment would carry them. I see seasons that tested us, moments that shaped us, and countless days when your steady presence gave me strength,” she wrote.
The voice-over was done by Romeo himself, who revealed that they first met when Basetsana was just 16, shortly after she won Miss Soweto. It was a sweet reminder of how far they’ve come.
She spoke about the life they built together, the seasons that tested them and the quiet moments where Romeo’s presence gave her strength.
Basetsana described how, for her, the milestone is not just about the years but about the love that has matured and settled into something steady and grounding.
“As we celebrate this silver milestone, I am reminded that love matures with time. It grows gentler, richer and more rooted. You have shown me that marriage is not only about grand moments but about the small, everyday acts of devotion that build a life. It is about choosing each other again and again, even as the years change us, I choose you every day.”
In her message, she described Romeo as her safe space and the person who has held their family together with patience and kindness.
She praised the way he leads with humility and how he stands with their children, guiding them with care and wisdom. For her, those everyday gestures are what make their marriage what it is.
The media personality also spoke about how marriage is shaped by choosing each other again and again, even as time changes you.
She thanked Romeo for supporting her through all seasons, for celebrating her wins, and for loving her in ways that go beyond what words can capture.
“Thank you for walking this path with me. Thank you for the laughter, the shared dreams, the prayers whispered in quiet moments, and the strength you have given me in times of trial. Thank you for loving me in ways that words will never fully capture.
"Thank you for never dimming my light and celebrating every milestone, big or small.
“My heart remains full of hope for the years ahead. I look forward to the new chapters we will write, the journeys still waiting for us, and the legacy we continue to build with our children. May God keep blessing our union, guiding us with grace and surrounding our home with peace.”
Looking ahead, she shared her hope for the years still to come and the new memories they will create with their family.
Her message ended with a prayer for their union and a note of love for her husband as they reached their “silver milestone”.
