South African football legend, Benni McCarthy, took to social media to share a heartfelt message for his wife, Stacey McCarthy (née Munro), on her birthday.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, February 23, the Kenya national team head coach shared a throwback picture of them to mark the special occasion and penned a heartfelt caption.
“Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife Stacey ❤️ here’s to many more happy years together 🥂 Love You Always @staceymccarthy17 ❤️,” he captioned his post.
The former Bafana Bafana player met the Scottish model during the filming of a Nike advertisement in Edinburgh in 2008.
The couple tied the knot in May 2014 in Scotland, and they share two children: daughter Lima Rose and son Lio Romero.
While they hardly share their personal matters online, the McCarthys do not shy away from celebrating special occasions and milestones on social media, including birthdays, anniversary and work-related achievements.
Before his marriage to Munro, McCarthy was previously married to Maria Jose Santos. They have three daughters together: Minna, Mya and Allegra.
In 2007, McCarthy and Santos announced their separation.
Professionally, McCarthy created a career that has spanned continents and decades, marking him as one of the most iconic footballers of all time.
He is also known as South Africa’s national team top scorer of all time with a total of 31 goals.
The 48-year-old recently released a memoir titled “Benni: From Gangland to Greatness”, which details how he has gone from growing up in the ganglands of the Cape Flats to playing at some of the biggest arenas in sport and becoming one of the most famous players in SA.
Fans, friends and family also wrote heart-warming messages for Stacey as she turned a year older.
