Khurstyn Naomi Joseph, a 26-year-old make-up artist, digital creator and entrepreneur, has made significant strides in the content creation industry over the past seven years.
Her journey began as a self-taught make-up artist sharing tutorials and looks online, but it quickly evolved into a passionate career that aims to inspire others.
"I was just someone who loved make-up, but to suddenly develop the ability to turn my face into a canvas for art? That, to me, has God's hand all over it. It’s something I could’ve never done on my own," she states.
Joseph's motivation stems from her desire to connect with her audience.
"From the beginning, my goal has always been to show others that if I can do it, so can they," she explains.
This relatable approach has resonated with many, as she strives to create a space where people feel seen and empowered to explore their own creativity.
For Joseph, content creation transcends beauty; it is about building connections and fostering a community.
"Seeing my growth, not only as a content creator but as an artist, pushes me to keep evolving. Not forgetting the messages and comments received from my audience, people saying my content inspired them to fall in love with makeup or gave them the courage to start creating themselves.
"For me, that’s what it’s all about. That's what inspires me to keep going."
One of Joseph's most notable projects is her "Strangling Purple Octopus" look, which pushed her out of her comfort zone.
"That look really challenged me to fully tap into my creativity," she recalls.
The intricate design required her to experiment with shading techniques, creating the illusion of an octopus wrapping around her face and neck.
This project not only showcased her artistic skills but also highlighted her ability to push boundaries.

"When I really commit to an idea, I’m capable of more than I ever imagined," Joseph asserts.
Taking creative risks has been a hallmark of Joseph's career.
She often dives straight into complex makeup looks without prior testing.
"Every single make-up look you see on my social media is actually my first attempt," she shares.
This high-pressure approach has taught her valuable lessons about confidence and spontaneity.
"Sometimes the most authentic results come when you step into the unknown and just create," she adds, emphasising the importance of trusting one's instincts.
Joseph's passion for makeup is deeply intertwined with her faith.
"Being able to wake up every day and do the one thing that I’m so very passionate about is truly a gift from God," she says.
This belief fuels her ambition to create art that inspires others. Her dream of owning a beauty empire drives her daily efforts, as she continually seeks to evolve as both a content creator and an artist.
Despite her success, Joseph faces misconceptions about her personality.
Many perceive her as unapproachable, a notion she understands given the curated nature of social media.
"In reality, I’m one of the most welcoming, genuine, and understanding people you’ll meet," she insists.
Joseph values human connection and is passionate about encouraging others.
"I’m passionate about pouring into people’s lives, offering advice, and hopefully inspiring them to believe in themselves," she explains.
Living in Durban, Joseph finds inspiration in the city's vibrant culture and community.
"Durban is full of life, creativity, and resilience," she describes.
With stunning beaches and a rich cultural heritage, she believes the city offers a unique blend of nature and creativity.
"To anyone thinking of visiting, do it! You’ll leave with memories, stories, and probably a few new friends," she encourages.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Joseph has ambitious plans for the future.
She aims to launch her own makeup brand, focusing on authenticity and quality.
"I’m really focused on creating products that reflect my artistry and the needs of my audience," she states.
Alongside this venture, she is expanding her makeup masterclasses, offering both group sessions and one-on-one classes.
"Teaching and connecting with people in person is something I genuinely love," she shares, highlighting the rewarding nature of helping others build their confidence.
For those aspiring to enter the makeup artistry and digital content creation industry, Joseph offers simple yet powerful advice: "Just start. Don’t overthink it, don’t wait for the ‘perfect’ moment."
She emphasises the importance of consistency and staying true to oneself.
"People are drawn to real, relatable, and authentic voices. Your uniqueness is your superpower," she says.
