The holiday season is just around the corner, and for many, that means it's time for a vacation.

Packing your suitcase can often feel overwhelming, especially when you're trying to fit in all your outfit options.

Fashion expert Leanna Spektor shares her secrets on how to pack stylishly and efficiently, focusing on versatile pieces that will make your travel wardrobe work harder for you.

"Smart packing involves freedom. When you pack intentionally, you spend less time stressing over outfits and more time enjoying your trip. That's the real luxury," said Spektor.

Slay every look with these 7 essentials.

A neutral blazer

A well-cut blazer in black, navy or beige is essential. It can instantly make any outfit look more sophisticated. Spektor describes the blazer as "your secret weapon".

It takes up minimal space in your luggage but can completely revamp your look.

"A blazer is your secret weapon. It takes up minimal space but revamps your entire look. I always choose one in a breathable fabric that resists creasing. The versatility is unmatched. Wear it on the plane to save luggage space, then style it three different ways throughout your trip," says Spektor.

Dark denim is incredibly forgiving. It hides travel wear better than lighter colours.

One perfect pair of jeans

Forget about packing multiple pairs - just one great pair of dark wash jeans can handle almost all travel situations.

Spektor explains: "Dark denim is incredibly forgiving. It hides travel wear better than lighter colours and transitions easily from day to night."

Pair your jeans with trainers for daytime adventures, and switch to ankle boots for a night out, and you can create two totally different looks.

Spektor suggests packing a couple of lightweight merino tops or a fine-knit jumper.

Merino wool layers

This fabric deserves its own spotlight. Merino wool regulates temperature, resists odours and barely wrinkles, which makes it perfect for travel. Pack a couple of lightweight merino tops or a fine-knit jumper.

They layer beautifully under blazers or cardigans and can be worn multiple times between washes without looking tired.

"It's lightweight, breathable, and you can roll it into almost nothing in your bag."

Focus on accessories that fold flat and avoid bulky or fragile items that could stress you out during travel.

A statement shoe

Comfortable walking shoes are an absolute travel must-have, but having one standout pair can elevate your entire outfit.

"Your shoes make or break an outfit. Pack one pair that does double duty, comfortable enough for walking but stylish enough for nice restaurants. A leather loafer or Chelsea boot hits that sweet spot."

Spektor suggested choosing leather or suede, and wearing your bulkiest pair on the plane to save case space.

Compact accessories

Accessories can make all the difference without taking up much room. A silk scarf, a simple necklace and a leather belt can completely transform your look.

"A patterned scarf can make the same white tee look different three days running. A statement earring elevates a simple jumper instantly."

Focus on pieces that fold flat and avoid bulky or fragile items that could stress you out during travel.

A midi skirt offers similar versatility and can be paired with a tee for a casual day or tucked in with a blouse and heels for a night out.

A slip dress or midi skirt

One elegant dress or skirt can become the basis for multiple outfits. A slip dress is great for day-to-night looks; during the day, you can wear it with trainers and a denim jacket, then switch to heels and jewellery for an evening out.

“Choose fabrics like jersey or silk blends that don't crease."

A midi skirt offers similar versatility and can be paired with a tee for a casual day or tucked in with a blouse and heels for a night out.

A leather or canvas crossbody in a neutral shade is perfect for carrying your essentials.

A crossbody bag

Your daytime bag needs to work across all activities. A leather or canvas crossbody in a neutral shade carries essentials without weighing you down.

"A crossbody bag that fits your phone, wallet and a water bottle is all you need. Anything bigger just encourages overpacking for day trips."

Choose one with secure closures and adjustable straps. Bonus points if it's stylish enough to take to dinner without switching bags.
