A search is underway at Tiger Rocks, Isipingo Beach where a man was swept out to sea on Friday morning.

According to Lifesaving South Africa, the man was swimming with two others at the non-bathing beach when all three got into difficulty.

EThekwini lifeguards, based at the swimming pool nearby, responded and were able to rescue two of the men but the third man remains missing.

“At approximately 10:30 on Friday, 21 November 2025, an incident was reported at Tiger Rocks, Isipingo Beach, where three males were swept out to sea. eThekwini Lifeguards stationed at the Tiger Rocks swimming pool responded swiftly and managed to rescue two of the individuals.

“Both men were assessed on scene, found to be in stable condition, and later released to return home. The third individual, a male approximately 25 years of age, remains missing. Search operations are ongoing.”

Lifesaving South Africa said eThekwini lifeguards, supported by a private security company, have deployed a drone to conduct an aerial search from Tiger Rocks toward McKenzie Beach.

It added that a jetski was also expected to be used to extend patrols along the shoreline.

“Sea conditions remain hazardous due to strong spring tide activity. The incident occurred during low tide, when strong currents rapidly pulled the victims out to sea.”

Earlier this month, Lifesaving South Africa said it was deeply concerned about the recent reports of fatal drownings occurring at beaches and swimming areas across the country.
