The petition calls on the judicial system to:
Beresford-Mnyandu said that every day, the internet is flooded with stories of women being killed, and it is heartbreaking.
“The very men who are meant to protect us are the ones violating, assaulting, and murdering women and children. It is sickening, it is wrong, and it is devastating to see how many lives and families have been shattered by gender-based violence. This is not acceptable. I stand firmly and unapologetically against it.”
In the aftermath of the killing, Taryn’s teenage son Daniel has moved in with his grandparents.
“My grandfather is now faced with not only the grief of losing his daughter but also the responsibility of caring for Taryn’s young son, his amazing grandson, Daniel, all on a pensioner’s limited means,” Beresford-Mnyandu said.
She said the family is raising funds via a BackaBuddy campaign to cover educational and household needs. “Any donation would help immensely to pay for educational related expenses (school fees, stationery, Matric dance etc.) and everyday bills and expenses.”
