The search for the body after an arm was found near the 11th hole of the Irene Country Club continued on Tuesday with the police’s Water Wing, Dog Unit and other members combing the Hennops River and its banks for the rest of the remains.

Police also had to keep out an eye for flying golf balls but the grisly discovery of the left arm on Monday afternoon did not seem to bother golfers too much. Golfers at times even warned police to look out after a hard putt or asked them if they could pick up their golf balls.

The partially decomposed left arm was discovered by the estate’s groundsman while inspecting water levels at the Hennops River following Sunday night’s heavy rains across Centurion.

Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Marinda Swanepoel said on Tuesday that the groundsman was cleaning the embankment of debris when he saw the arm in the grass.

“Police have been searching the river and the embankment the whole day. Nothing has been found yet.

“However, they will search the whole river if necessary to find the rest of the body. The Dog Unit said they would use as much manpower as possible to solve this,” said Swanepoel, confirming that the search would continue.

While an inquest docket has been opened and the arm taken by forensic investigators, it is still not clear whether it is that of a man or woman or what race the person was.

It is believed that the arm was washed down the Hennops River, which flows through the club grounds, by recent rains.
