While most South Africans were celebrating the festive season with relatives, one family was shattered when an alleged love triangle ended in the deaths of a husband and his wife and critical injury to the lover.
Wierdabrug police were called out to a house in Country Hill at about 7pm on Monday. They found a 32-year-old woman who had been shot dead and a man who was wounded.
Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier said that at about the same time, police in Midrand responding to a report found a man dead with a .32 revolver beside him.
Investigations established that the woman found dead in Country Hill and the dead man in Midrand were husband and wife.
It is alleged that the woman had asked her husband for a separation, leading to an argument.
“The woman left and went to a house in Country Hill where the lover was. It appears her husband followed her. It is not clear what happened at the Country Hill house, but the wife was left dead and her boyfriend injured.”
The boyfriend remained in a critical condition yesterday.
Olivier said the particulars of the trio were being withheld because of the “sensitivity of the case and out of respect for the families who must still be notified of the tragedy”.
She urged the public to report crime to 10111 or 08600 10111 or to SMS “report” to 32211. People may contact the police station at 012 335 2812 for trauma debriefing, a free service. - Pretoria News
