Rape accused smiles at witness

Stephen "Foxy" Isaacs. Stephen "Foxy" Isaacs.

The man accused of raping a little girl and leaving her for dead sat grinning in court during the first day of his trial.

Stephen “Foxy” Isaacs did nothing to hide his smug smile while he listened to the girl’s uncle describe how horrified he was when he heard that the then nine-year-old had allegedly been raped by a man he had brought into the family.

The girl’s uncle told the court that he met Isaacs while in prison on a drugs charge.

“When it was time for his parole, I gave him a place to stay and I supported him while he looked for work,” said the distraught uncle.

The man said he trusted Isaacs and couldn’t believe it when he heard that the man had allegedly raped the child.

He said he called Isaacs immediately and Isaacs promised to meet him at home but never arrived.

The uncle told the court he wanted Isaacs to spend the rest of his life in jail.

“I am angry at him. I gave him a place to stay when he was on parole,” he told the court.

Isaacs allegedly attacked the girl six months after being released on parole from the Malmesbury Correctional Centre where he was serving a five-year prison sentence for attempted rape.

This is the third time he is in court on rape charges. In 1990, he was sentenced to 10 years for rape. In 1997, he was sentenced to six years imprisonment for sodomy and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

And in 2006, he was found guilty on charges of attempted rape – the charges for which he was on parole when the little girl was violently raped.
