Over 500 held for crime in Cape

Johannesburg - At least 563 people were arrested for various crimes including possession of illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs in various areas in Cape Town, Western Cape police said on Monday.

Around 219 of them were arrested in Mitchell’s Plain for drug related charges at the weekend.

“Seventy nine houses were searched for drugs in Mitchell’s Plain, where 219 suspects were arrested. Drugs confiscated were 129 heroin units, 563 packets of tik, 237 mandrax tablets and 647g of dagga.”

Those facing drug related charges are expected to appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court soon.
