Mr Pudding gets a winning belly rub

Mr Pudding, 7, a domestic short hair from Sherwood, our Pet of the Month, once roughed it among some construction rubble before deciding to take in his current family and now lives in luxury.

Meet the winner and finalists in the November Independent on Saturday’s Pet of the Month competition, with Mr Pudding earning a tummy rub, the title and a R500 voucher from Petzone.

Mr Pudding found the right home to settle in after roughing it in rubble three years ago: he obviously chose well.

His family said: “Mr Pudding came to us three years ago when we were doing some construction. He used to live on the construction site until he started coming to the front door and finally inside our home. He is now a domesticated house cat and prefers eating chicken and tuna over cat food.”

Competition rules: The competition is open to all pets and only one picture may be submitted. Employees of Independent Media, the sponsor, their advertising agencies and their immediate families may not enter. The editor’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Because of the festive season, entries for December close on December 17 and winners will be published on December 21. The competition will run until February 2025.

An independent panel of judges will select the Pet of the Month.

Because of space constraints, not all pictures will be published in the newspaper. However, every pet will be considered and all entries will be published on our Facebook page.

Colour-co-ordinated Lucy, an 18-month-old Pomeranian, lounges at her Redhill, Greenwood Park, home.

Smudge’s markings make the 10-month-old domestic short hair from Sherwood stand out in any crowd.

Kylie, a 6-year-old Labrador cross Rottweiler from Dawncliffe, Westville, is regal on rattan waiting for a hug.

Kane, a 4-year-old husky from eManzimtoti, is too cool to care.

Pablo the 10-month-old blue nose pit from Chatsworth keen to protect and serve.
